Australians Now Have “The Right to Disconnect”

Australia recently introduced a “right to disconnect” law allowing employees at larger companies to avoid work communications outside of set hours. Employees are now protected from having to respond to after-hours calls and emails, a rule which will extend to small and medium-sized businesses in 2025. Vodia Networks has supported work-life separation since launching its multi-tenant PBX system over a decade ago. Vodia’s app includes features such as Do-Not-Disturb (DND) modes and service flags, allowing employees to manage after-hours calls and redirect communications to different offices or voicemail as needed. These capabilities support productivity without compromising employee balance.

California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) Proposes Decision in VoIP Licensing and Regulation Rulemaking Proceeding

The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) proposed a decision on September 13, 2024, introducing a new regulatory framework for VoIP providers: Digital Voice Nomadic (DVN) for nomadic services and Digital Voice Fixed (DVF) for fixed services. This proposal mandates different registration requirements for VoIP providers, similar to traditional telecommunications regulations. The Cloud Communications Alliance (CCA) opposed the decision, citing technical and regulatory conflicts with FCC policies. The outcome remains to be seen as stakeholders closely monitor the decision.

Cove Central TAPP Expands Nationwide

Cove Central Communications announced its nationwide Technology Alliance Partner Program (TAPP) with Vodia in November 2023, aimed at supporting Managed Service Providers (MSPs) in delivering VoIP solutions. Since its launch, TAPP has seen significant interest, with Cove Central now providing VoIP solutions to over 30,000 users through regional MSP partners. The program addresses challenges such as FCC fees, compliance, and E911 configuration, simplifying VoIP deployment for MSPs. Jim Whittaker, Head of Technology, noted a projected revenue increase of 60% or more in 2024 due to TAPP.

Vodia Announces Version 69.3.1

Vodia has announced the release of version 69.3.1 of its PBX, featuring enhanced robustness for challenging environments. This update introduces new supported devices, Prometheus support for graphs and call queue statistics and improvements in IVR with natural number pronunciation for languages like French. Other notable updates include simple agent login/logout, better call forwarding for internal numbers, and multiple push servers for resilience. Bug fixes address issues with ActionURL passwords, Grandstream device support, HTTP server information in REST API calls, and more. Users are advised to back up their systems before upgrading.

The New Vodia Android App

We recently launched Vodia Phone 2, a new Android app designed to enhance mobile user experience. This new app, written in Kotlin, replaces the previous version that was based on HTML5. The rewrite addresses performance issues, such as high resource consumption and suboptimal control over incoming calls and the microphone, which were problematic with the HTML5 WebRTC framework. By leveraging the Android native dialer API, the new app ensures quick, safe call handling. While both apps are currently available, users are encouraged to transition to Vodia Phone 2 for improved functionality. Vodia Networks continues to support a wide range of enterprise telephony needs with their advanced PBX software.

FCC Adopts New Rules to Close Robocall Loophole

The FCC recently closed the "lead generator" loophole to address the widespread issue of unwanted robocalls. Our customers actually started with us, let’s say 400 calls, about 400 calls a day. Five years later there are 3000 calls per day. The reason for that is we applied Vodia functionality to various parts of their organizations and captured all the call records that transacted through the system, and we analyzed, for them, to find the source of the calls, what areas geographically, and thus the customer was able to focus their resources in servicing those areas, reaching many more patients and many more doctors.

True plug and play in VoIP networks

Vodia® Networks has once again taken the lead by introducing a VoIP-in-a-Box solution based on open standards that is designed to work seamlessly across all IP handsets, giving users the ultimate freedom in end-device selection. With this new feature, as soon the IP handsets are plugged into the network, Vodia® PBX automatically detects all the phones in your network and lists them on the admin portal. The listed information includes Vendor type, MAC address and IP address of each detected device. The administrator can then simply assign a PBX user to the phone by selecting a user profile from a drop down. The IP handset then automatically reboots and configures itself with the assigned user profile. Configuration information may include customer name, password, email address, telephone number, ring tone, class of service, QoS (Quality of Service), SIP URI, SIP proxy server, call server FQDN (Fully Qualified Domain Name) or IP address, and other parameters.
