We are committed to the principles inherent in the GDPR and particularly to the concepts of privacy by design, the right to be forgotten, consent, and a risk based approach. In addition, we aim to ensure: 

• Transparency with regards to use of data
• That data is accurate, kept up to date, and removed when no longer necessary
• That data is kept safely and securely

What is the GDPR?

The General Data Protection Regulation 2016/679 is a regulation in EU law on data protection and privacy in the European Union and the European Economic Area. It also addresses the transfer of personal data outside the EU and EEA areas.

Who does the GDPR affect?

The GDPR affects companies processing the personal data of individuals residing in the European Union, regardless of a company’s location.

How does the GDPR affect businesses?

The GDPR requires organizations to be transparent on how personal data is collected, used, and stored. This requires transparency from organizations on what personal data is collected, purposes for which it is collected, and who it is shared with. It also requires companies to enable individuals whose personal data is being processed to exercise their rights in relation to their data. The GDPR also requires companies to ensure appropriate protections when EU personal data is transferred outside the EU (including transfers to the US).

What Data Subject rights does GDPR regulate?

There are 8 fundamental data subject rights:

1. Access. The right to know whether data concerning them is being processed and if so, access it.
2. Rectification. Incorrect personal data is required to be corrected.
3. Erasure. The consumer can request that all or some of their personal data be erased from the company’s system.
4. Restriction of Processing. The right of the consumer to limit the processing of their personal data.
5. Withdrawal of Consent. If they have consented to an organization’s use of personal data for a specific purpose, they have the right to change their mind at any time. Any such decision will not affect any processing that has already occurred nor will it affect processing of their personal information conducted in reliance of lawful processing grounds other than consent.
6. Portability. The consumer can ask for their personal data in a machine-readable format. They can also request that the data is transferred to someone else in the event that it is possible.
7. Right to Object. The consumer can let the organization know that they object to the collection of their personal data for certain purposes.
8. Right to File a Complaint. They have the right to lodge a complaint about an organization’s practices with respect to their personal data through the supervisory authority of an EU Member State.
