Vodia Version 70.2 - Run Multiple Licenses on the Same Virtual Machine

V70.2 introduces more flexible licensing for multi-tenant PBX deployments by allowing service providers to assign prepaid licenses directly to tenants within a postpaid environment. Once assigned, the tenant uses the prepaid license independently, and the underlying postpaid license no longer counts that tenant. This gives MSPs and hosted PBX providers more flexibility in how they structure customer licensing while continuing to operate tenants on shared infrastructure, reducing operating costs and simplifying large-scale multi-tenant deployments.

In March of this year, we announced the official launch of V70 of the Vodia PBX, which is built for administrative clarity, production readiness, and operational scale. V70 introduced architectural and usability improvements designed for real-world, multi-tenant deployments.

Now, with V70.2, service providers can assign pre-paid licenses directly to tenants within a post-paid multi-tenant deployment - the tenant then uses the pre-paid license independently, and the post-paid license no longer counts that tenant.

Vodia Gives You True Multi-Tenant

The feature-rich Vodia PBX is designed for the cloud. It enables Managed Service Providers (MSPs) to manage all of their customers, per domain, on a single instance. But how does single-tenant differ from multi-tenant?

Single-Tenant

  • Each tenant gets a proprietary instance of an application
  • Proprietary instance of its database
  • Proprietary instance of its supporting infrastructure

Multi-Tenant

  • Single instance of a phone system (database and hardware) available to multiple tenants
  • Supports an aggregate of users (corporations, etc.)
  • Multiple tenants operate within the same PBX instance
  • Each user’s activity and data are inaccessible to other tenants

Vodia’s multi-tenant phone system is designed for MSPs and hosted PBX providers. The multi-tenancy feature of our state-of-the-art PBX permits MSPs to provide comprehensive IT services efficiently, cost-effectively, and at scale. With our multi-tenant setup, MSPs can leverage a single infrastructure layer or platform to provide services simultaneously to all of their customers: each customer is securely separated to ensure access privileges, configurations, and data remain completely separated.

One System, Multiple Licenses

With Vodia V70.2 multi-tenant, MSPs can now add pre-paid licenses to a tenant of a post-paid multi-tenant license - the tenant uses the license, but the post-paid won’t count the tenant. This can be arranged quickly and simply in tenant settings at the administrator level.

Why This Makes Sense

With V70.2, Vodia partners can now run multiple licenses on the same virtual machine. Licenses can be assigned to specific customers, and their payments can be remitted independently via the underlying post-paid license. Tenants can take care of payments on their own, and these payments won’t affect the post-paid license. These tenant licenses can be purchased via the new partner portal, as well as via its earlier iteration.

Reduced Costs

The V70.2 licensing configuration significantly reduces the service operating cost, especially with high-quality servers, wherein server costs can exceed the license cost. Instead of separating customers onto different systems because of licensing requirements, providers can continue operating tenants on shared infrastructure while managing licensing independently. For example, when running 100 tenants on a high-quality server, the VM cost can typically be reduced by between 90 and 99 percent, compared to isolated deployments.

At Vodia Networks, every improvement we make to our cloud phone system is designed to help our partners operate more efficiently at scale. V70.2 gives MSPs more flexibility in how they structure customer licensing while preserving the operational advantages of a multi-tenant PBX environment. Desk phones, mobile apps, or both? Choosing the right setup for business calls

Desk phones and mobile apps both have a place in modern business communications. IP desk phones remain a strong choice for receptionists, support teams, customer service agents, and employees who handle a high volume of calls from a fixed location. Mobile apps, on the other hand, give remote, hybrid, and field-based users access to their business extension wherever they work. For many organizations, the best answer is not choosing one over the other, but using both through the same PBX environment so every user has the right calling tool for their role.
