VoIP and Cloudflare

Cloudflare is a service that enhances security and performance by masking your web server's IP. For users of the Vodia multi-tenant PBX, however, masking the DNS IP can cause issues during phone registration. While the phone can initially provision via HTTP, it won't register because the masked DNS IP blocks communication. To resolve this, you need to disable the Cloudflare proxy for your DNS, allowing the phone to register correctly. Find out how to get your phone registered by adjusting these settings in your Cloudflare account.

What is Cloudflare? Cloudflare services are used to increase the security and performance of your website.  It does this by basically masking the IP of your DNS to your Web server. If you are using a DNS on the Vodia multi-tenant PBX, then it would not make sense to mask the DNS IP when using Cloudflare. The initial provisioning of the phone is done through HTTP, which will work to get the phone’s config file; whenever the phone is ready for registration, however, the phone won't be able to register, since the DNS IP address is masked (this renders the phone unusable).

Follow these steps to get your phone registered:

Navigate to your Cloudflare user portal, click on your domain, then on DNS. Check your DNS management and change the proxy to use DNS.

Server controlled prompts and call flow through IVR

Vodia's IVR has become even more powerful with JavaScript control, enabling dynamic prompts and call flow adjustments directly from a server. By leveraging HTTP requests, the IVR can fetch responses in real-time, allowing customized greetings, prompts, and call transfers based on caller input. For example, customer codes entered via DTMF can be validated through a server, triggering personalized responses and directing calls to the appropriate destination. This flexibility enhances automation and improves customer interactions, making Vodia’s IVR a highly adaptable and intelligent solution for businesses.

US Court of Appeals Rules Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Lacks Legal Authority to Reinstate Net Neutrality Rules

The FCC has reinstated net neutrality rules, classifying broadband as an essential service under Title II to prevent ISPs from blocking, throttling, or prioritizing content for payment. Originally introduced in 2015 under President Obama and repealed in 2017 during the Trump administration, the rules have been a point of contention, with tech giants like Amazon, Apple, and Meta supporting their return. However, a federal court ruling in early 2024 challenged the FCC’s authority, potentially halting decades-long efforts for comprehensive oversight.
