Vodia: Celebrating a Decade of Innovation

We are nearing the end of our tenth anniversary year, and I must say it’s been quite a year. It’s been ten years of innovation in VoIP and cloud communications, and we remain at the vanguard of the industry. We founded Vodia a decade ago with a commitment to innovative software development, and this commitment has only strengthened over the past 10 years. It is the core of what we do.

We began our anniversary year with the release of V69 of our software. With the release of V69, we offered another version of our phone system for both SMBs and for larger enterprises. I see a tremendous opportunity for Vodia and, especially, our partners, to address this market in 2023 and in the years to come.

What I learned during graduate school in the ‘90s was,“never change a running system.” If everything works fine, there’s no need to upgrade your PBX — version 68 is quite stable, and we have no plan to change this. Version 69 is the right version for you if you want to install a new PBX, if your users ask for any of our new features or if you just want to take a peek. As with previous versions, Version 69 is simple to install and deploy and easy to use. It’s perfect for organizations in any industry, from public institutions and medical offices and hospitals to restaurants and hotels, whether these organizations are working with a dispersed team or one entirely on-site.

And V69 includes new DECT features. Even though we designed our phone system to run on a public IP address from the get-go, it also gives you excellent on-premise performance - it’s a natural fit for DECT installations. The Vodia IOP is ideal for running the phone system in a private network if you don’t want to run a whole server just for the PBX; together with a DECT base station, this gives you everything you need to run a powerful, robust communication solution.

One of the things we’re most excited about this year is passkeys. With the availability of passkeys on all mainstream browsers, users and administrators can conveniently access the Vodia phone system with an unprecedented level of security. Passkeys are a great way to provide a better user login experience, and they significantly enhance the security of the PBX.

All browsers and operating systems are ready for passkeys. We were calling for their use back in January of this year, and it seems the IT industry has finally caught up to us! Passkeys continue to gain traction, and we expect users of the Vodia phone system will appreciate the convenience and security they provide.

We continue to forge ahead: we’re thrilled with what we’ve achieved so far, and we’re excited about what we will achieve in our second decade. Right now we are wondering about SIP trunking - will it continue as is, or will it become like WebRTC trunking? What will we see when we peer into the big and growing ecosystems such as Microsoft or WhatsApp? Is there any new interoperability coming around the corner? We would love it.

I’m sure we’ll be very busy, both in Boston and Berlin, for the next ten years. We will work to remain at the cutting edge of information technology while continuing to build the personal relationships that have given us a much-deserved reputation as a human, partner-centric company.
