As the industry’s leading cloud PBX, the deployment of our software around the world is music to our ears. We think of each of our outstanding partners as one of our greatest hits, a platinum album…indispensable. We of course feel this way about our Austin, TX partner, SIP HARMONY, a family-run cloud VoIP provider for small-to-medium businesses, hotels, schools and residences. The company is helping keep Austin weird – and connected.

SIP HARMONY helps businesses all around the country work from anywhere by providing a telephone system that brings together standard SIP devices and services with proprietary clients for standard mobile and PC clients. The company also offers white glove service free of charge, which includes setting up a phone system, porting current numbers and even finding voice talent.

“VoIP is hectic,” says founder Michael S. “There’s a lot of ‘behind the curtains’ shenanigans, too. Most the major platforms aren’t open and honest about their pricing, which is something SMBs can’t afford. With SIP HARMONY, we can assure them this won’t ever happen. We are absolutely open and honest about our pricing. We want to help our customers grow and thrive.”

Michael S. is new to the Vodia family, having joined us at the end of the summer of 2021. “Vodia is a dream come true,” he says. “When I realized the entire platform is API based, I couldn’t believe it! Once I got my trial license, it took me no time at all to figure it out. I love the API! I put it through the ringer with blueprints, one of the many things I am porting over from my own PBX software, which I wrote using Twilio.”

“That Vodia uses its own API for its programs says a lot: this is a major indicator a SaaS company has it together. The entire PBX can be controlled all through the API – it even has one exposed main websocket. I can’t say enough about Vodia. I’ve used them all, and this is by far the best. Support is great too. I really enjoy the YouTube videos and ‘the ‘one-on-one’ zoom style calls.”

Michael S. sees SIP HARMONY growing, as it’s the only reseller proving SMBs personalized PBXs. The company does it all, from custom development to custom integrations.

“We love SMBs!” Michael S. says. “Ultimately the SIP HARMONY portal will combine Vodia and one of Vodia’s key partners, QuestBlue, and I’ll be 100 percent reselling my QuestBlue rates, marked up, through the API, enabling users to manage their Vodia domains directly, via the portal – blueprints will control the entire domain. With Vodia and QuestBlue, I have automated so much. Every time a call ends, I calculate the cost and add it as a non-billable expense to the account in my accounting software, which gives me a high-level view of everything, all thanks to Vodia’s API and its action URLs. It really is a dream come true. I can integrate any software with Vodia with ease. I hope Vodia takes the PBX world by storm.”

We’re pretty sure we’ll do it, thanks to amazing partners like SIP HARMONY. Looking to harmonize your telephony? Reach out to Michael J, info@sipharmony.com.

How Vodia Helps Hotels Not Disturb Their Guests

Vodia’s cloud PBX system enhances the Do-Not-Disturb (DND) function for hotels, allowing guests to manage their privacy through buttons in the room or on the phone. The system syncs with PMS for seamless functionality, enabling hotel operators to manually override DND when guests struggle to disable it. For critical situations, like room service follow-ups, the system allows specific extensions to bypass DND, ensuring guests are reachable when needed. VIP guest management features, guest-to-guest call restrictions and automatic resets upon checkout ensure privacy, security, and convenience, improving the guest experience while maintaining operational efficiency.

WLAN and VoIP: What You Need to Know

As businesses increasingly adopt Wireless Local Area Networks (WLAN), understanding its impact on Voice over IP (VoIP) is essential. While WLAN offers flexibility and mobility, it can lead to call quality issues due to packet loss and bursts during access point switching. To combat these challenges, organizations can utilize robust codecs like OPUS which are designed to handle packet loss effectively and employ Session Border Controllers (SBCs) to enhance jitter buffers. By incorporating these solutions, companies can ensure a more reliable VoIP experience that meets the demands of modern workplaces, allowing seamless communication without interruptions.

Call Forwarding Glitches

In the late 1980s, prank calls were a common form of entertainment but often caused confusion, similar to today’s call forwarding glitches. Recently, a client migrating to a new PBX system experienced disruptions when users mistyped numbers for call forwarding. While user errors are common, there's a bigger concern: calls being misdirected to emergency numbers or costly lines, especially since many VoIP phones lack security features. Solutions include restricting call forwarding to internal numbers, blocking access or allowing only specific, pre-approved numbers. Ultimately, balancing control over settings is essential to prevent glitches while keeping systems user-friendly.
