The entire Vodia team is delighted to let you know we have finished and released Version 68 of our cloud PBX – the release notes are available at https://doc.vodia.com/docs/releasenotes680.

So what’s new? Let’s start with the changes we made to the naming convention. “Multi-tenant” has become a well-known word for hosting multiple clients on one system, so it’s only logical we call them “tenants” now! The word “domain” became increasingly confusing, especially for new partners coming on board. We also renamed “hunt groups” as “ring groups” and “agent groups” as “queues”. Finally, inside the tenant we have kept the scope more within the tenant – for example, the address book is now called “the shared address book” instead of “the domain address book.” These changes will gradually find their way into different languages and into the documentation.

Version 68 also brings a lot of new features to both the back end and the front end. We were surprised by the increase in web front end and PC app users – it’s likely the pandemic was a major factor here and, consequently, we spent a lot of time taking the front end to the next level. There were many improvements, such as the address book, but we also redesigned the parking and pickup of calls, improved the queue view and added new functions specifically for the queue manager.

We had too many instances where our own staff went out for lunch and forgot to turn DND on their return to the office: we solved this problem by making it so DND can be set for a certain time, so you don’t have to remember to turn it off (there’s a setting for VoIP phones that sets a default value).

On the back end, our favorite new feature is the redesigned queue report email, which now provides charts of agent activity for the day, week, month or quarter — we couldn’t wait to receive the first email about our own queue! We introduced groups to address the bulk management of permissions like most user interfaces do today — you might want to double check this change after you upgrade.

We have also added a simple way to set up email with just a Vodia email address. This is optional, as you can still use your own server, but we needed a way to make the setup process simpler, especially for smaller installations, e.g., with the Vodia IOP. And speaking of Vodia IOP, we improved the IOP software update interface: it now, hopefully, shows the administrator when the files have been written to the SD card and it’s safe to restart. We have also added a page to set a static IP address. We still believe it’s better to reserve the address in the DHCP server, but we heard your requests and worked tirelessly to accommodate them!

As always, we expect it will take some time until the dust has settled. We are sure there will be some smaller fixes coming up in the next days and weeks, but all in all it’s for sure another milestone in the history of the Vodia PBX. We believe it’s the industry’s finest, most robust and resilient and easy-to-use cloud PBX, and we thank you for being part of our continued success. Please reach out to us and let us know what you think of 68, sales@vodia.com.
