The Vodia cloud PBX is the industry standard and a telephone system that works from anywhere – it’s the last tool companies need to work from home. It gives you real-time talk with an imperceptible delay. Our best-in-class PBX integrates with Microsoft Teams out of the box: it’s tailored for remote environments, so your team can use their mobile devices as their office extensions.

We’re a few months past the unofficial anniversary of the beginning of the Covid-19 Pandemic, and innumerable companies have transitioned to a hybrid work environment, with some employees working at offices and the rest working from home, while teams at other companies are entirely remote, working from home, or from anywhere with a viable Internet connection.

With dispersed staff that have to stay in touch with each other, many companies use third party services to keep everyone connected and, of course, there are many criteria that have to be considered prior to choosing a solution. Usually, Vodia, as a SaaS provider, is asked numerous questions about our product, particularly regarding usability, accessibility, cross platform support, mobile and desktop apps, customization and quality of service. It’s rather interesting to see security concerns are rarely addressed, and the end customer, you, are provided very little information about data integrity, availability and confidentiality – the sacred CIA Triad. Together, these three principles form the cornerstone of any organization’s security infrastructure. They (should) function as goals and objectives for every security program.[https://www.f5.com/labs/articles/education/what-is-the-cia-triad].

Confidentiality: the protection of information from unauthorized access

Integrity: the condition where information is kept accurate and consistent unless authorized changes are made

Availability: information should be available when authorized users need to access it.

Let’s see how we apply the CIA Triad principle in our platform.

Thanks to the HTTPS and WSS, it’s guaranteed all data exchanges between the client and the Vodia cloud PBX are always secure: as a precaution it’s actually impossible to initiate the call, or do anything from the user portal, unless HTTPS is used.

We have a sophisticated mechanism in place that tracks login attempts and, if it detects any malicious activity, the IP is blacklisted right away. Admins can also check login activity for clear indication of unsuccessful login attempts. All of us, as end users, hate when password policies are overcomplicated and almost impossible to keep track of: while Vodia does have a password reset option, we also have a password strength setting that can be tweaked to find the middle ground between security and insanity.

Many people in the IT industry have heard of instances where services go down. This is sometimes due to network errors, sometimes due to DDoS attacks, or sometimes due to system overload. If you favor cloud, then we have a robust failover mechanism that guarantees the availability of your service in any weather.

With the angry acronym GDRP, which is beloved for privacy and hated for the annoying popups we have to click through, it’s good news for our customers that Vodia doesn’t share any data with third parties. Reason one: all our clients run their own instances of the PBX, hence we have neither involvement with nor access to your data. Reason two: we don’t actually collect any data. Of course, in cases when a CRM system or something like Google signin is involved, there could be a potential data exposure, but those companies usually only have access to limited data and rather secure sophisticated integrations.

Installing our PBX, even a second PBX alongside your office PBX to enable remote or hybrid work, requires no migration and results in no disruption to your original PBX – it’s just a simple second step. And you can be certain we are constantly fine-tuning our PBX to not only improve its functionality but to continue to contribute to the security of your data.

All in all, it’s hard to be just a telecommunications company without addressing security, especially when it comes to communication and information exchange. For more information, reach out to us, sales@vodia.com.

Connecting to OpenAI Realtime API

This document details the beta version of the Vodia PBX that connects to the OpenAI realtime API, enabling users to interact with a chatbot via telephone. The backend JavaScript code facilitates the connection, handling audio input and output, and the WebSocket connection to the OpenAI API. The setup requires a Vodia PBX version 69.5.3 or higher, an API key, and a license with an IVR node. The demo can be accessed by editing the ivrnode.js template and creating an IVR node in the tenant. The system supports various VoIP devices and offers good voice quality. Future improvements include voice activity detection and the ability to take actions based on OpenAI responses.

How Vodia Helps Hotels Not Disturb Their Guests

Vodia’s cloud PBX system enhances the Do-Not-Disturb (DND) function for hotels, allowing guests to manage their privacy through buttons in the room or on the phone. The system syncs with PMS for seamless functionality, enabling hotel operators to manually override DND when guests struggle to disable it. For critical situations, like room service follow-ups, the system allows specific extensions to bypass DND, ensuring guests are reachable when needed. VIP guest management features, guest-to-guest call restrictions and automatic resets upon checkout ensure privacy, security, and convenience, improving the guest experience while maintaining operational efficiency.

WLAN and VoIP: What You Need to Know

As businesses increasingly adopt Wireless Local Area Networks (WLAN), understanding its impact on Voice over IP (VoIP) is essential. While WLAN offers flexibility and mobility, it can lead to call quality issues due to packet loss and bursts during access point switching. To combat these challenges, organizations can utilize robust codecs like OPUS which are designed to handle packet loss effectively and employ Session Border Controllers (SBCs) to enhance jitter buffers. By incorporating these solutions, companies can ensure a more reliable VoIP experience that meets the demands of modern workplaces, allowing seamless communication without interruptions.
